Luke 6:12-13
“And it came to pass in those days, that He went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
And when it was day, He called unto Him His disciples: and of them He chose twelve, whom also He named apostles;”
“Long prayers and long sermons tend to quench the fire instead of kindling it.
Brethren, in all things has our Lord Jesus given us the best example–also in regard to praying.
#]. When with His disciples, His prayers were of medium length.
#]. In the midst of a large crowd, as at Lazarus’ grave and thefeeding of the five thousand, His prayer was short.
#]. When He was alone with His Father–in the Garden or on the Mount–then He prayed all night.
So ought ye also to do, dear brethren.
● Among God’s children, make your prayer medium long, as Jesus did when He was about to be crucified.
● When in a crowd or with the sick or dying or the unfortunate, short.
● When you are alone with your Father in your secret closet, pray as long as you please.
The great matter is not how long you pray, but how earnestly you pray. Consider the life of the prayer rather than the length of the prayer. If your prayer reaches to heaven it is long enough.”
~ Charles H. Spurgeon
“He was long alone with God: He continued all night in prayer. We think one half hour a great deal to spend in the duties of the closet; but Christ continued a whole night in meditation and secret prayer. We have a great deal of business at the throne of grace, and we should take a great delight in communion with God, and by both these we may be kept sometimes long at prayer.”
~ Matthew Henry

“He that does not pray, says in his heart, ‘There is no God.”
~ John Owen
“You are never lacking while you have God to go to.”
~ Charles Spurgeon
