Our History
Truth Missionary Baptist Church (TMBC) was started by the late Rev. Johnnie Floyd Todd, an American missionary serving with the Baptist International Missions, Inc., in 1983, as a separated ministry of the Dansoman Baptist Church.
There were about twenty (20) members of the latter church which comprised the early congregation. The first meetings were held at the residence of a new convert of the fledgling outreach, Mr Owusu Kyereko, at the bus stop of Dansoman Exhibition. After two years, the church held its meetings at the Datus School premises.
Soon, the Todd family proceeded on furlough in the United States, and the mantle fell on the deacons of the church to steer its affairs. In April 1984, Rev. Djaba Nyakotey was elected as the church’s first Pastor after the missionaries left.
The emphasis of the Truth Missionary Baptist Church has always been an intensive children and youth ministry. AWANA, a Christian youth ministry was introduced, and soon the church deepened its outreach to un-churched young ones, and later, their adult parents. This effort has borne tremendous fruits today. Ninety percent of the membership today can be attributed directly or indirectly to children and youth work.
In 1985, the church, under the leadership of Rev. Nyakotey began searching for a permanent property for worship. The search led to a parcel of land at our current location- No. 8, 2nd Exhibition Street, Dansoman Estates, Accra.
In 1989, the Lord called Rev. Nyakotey to full-time missionary service with Awana Clubs International. Pastor Benjamin Arthur was subsequently called to shepherd the flock from 1991 to 1994. In April 1996, Pastor Ferguson S-N Kcofie was called to the pulpit of TMBC where he has been the Pastor
